How to Conceptualize a Skincare Product with SRMD Solution

You’re ready to develop your own skincare product or line, but where do you begin? At SRMD Solution, we can help you nail down (and take care of) the fine details. Producing your own skincare product or line might seem overwhelming, but that’s where SRMD Solution comes in. When we begin a partnership with a brand, we always start with conceptualization to create a blueprint that takes your product from an idea to a reality.

Where to begin — The product

Every onboarding with SRMD Solution begins by fleshing out exactly what you want and expect from your skincare product. You may or may not already know the product’s purpose and what you want it to accomplish for the customer. If not, you’ll need to consider whether you want it to refreshen, moisturize, heal, or prevent wrinkles, for example.

As we discuss and refine the details, we then work within a framework to develop new formulas or enhance existing ones, depending on your needs and goals. We can blend, alter, and individualize formulas to create products that become a unique signature product.

The process often starts with a base formula either provided by us or you. However, if you don’t already have a formula in mind, chances are you’ve already been inspired by an existing product that aligns with your brand goals and values. Recipes in the kitchen are inspired by other recipes, and skincare formulas created in the lab can start the same way.

The conceptualization process may also involve creating or making an existing formula “clean,” as in made of natural, gentle, and/or non-harmful ingredients. We have a list of trusted, safe ingredients that we recommend and that can be added to an existing formula.

An ingredient from our list or one that you’d like to add to your existing formula can easily become the defining ingredient. We can add, subtract, or replace ingredients to produce the desired effect so the product fits your goals and meets clean standards.

Our conceptualization process is thorough and complete to reduce the chances of changes late in the manufacturing period.

Packaging Details

The formula might be the heart of the project, but there are other important considerations to get into the hands of consumers. Packaging, including the bottle shape and size to the dispenser design, can catch the customer’s eye, making it a vital component in the overall plan. We go over and consider packaging from the start of any project. We have different bottle shapes, sizes, and materials for you to choose from, along with dispenser types and more.

But packaging is more than the bottle and what’s on it. We’ll discuss your display materials and the size and type of shipping boxes you need before finalizing the project. If needed, we can discuss colors, designs, and market trends too. The goal is from the outset to know where the product is going so that it ends up in the hands of your targeted customers at launch.

Skincare that Fits Your Brand and Marketing Goals

Both the formula and the packaging should also fit within your marketing goals, which is why we include your marketing plan at conceptualization, too. To create products that deliver, we’ll discover the kind of experience you want your customers to have in-store or online and how you want the product’s image to integrate into your overall strategy.

A glimpse (or more) into your marketing plan can make sure that the final skincare product tells the story you want your customers to hear.

Conceptualize Through to the End

You might have an idea, formula, or even a label in mind. Getting those ideas and formulas onto the shelves and into the hands of your customers is a process. And it’s a process we know well. From the very beginning, we’ve got the complete package in mind—formulating, designing, packaging, manufacturing, shipping, and more.

We’ve designed our onboarding/conceptualization process to act as a blueprint. You can see where you are and where you’re going. It also creates a touch point in our partnership as we get you ready to step into or enhance your skincare product.
